PUBG's Update 35.1 lands as one of those patches that quietly reshapes how players approach the game. From the long-awaited aim punch changes to a fresh Contender system, there is a lot for veterans and newcomers to explore. The PC maintenance window was set for April 9, 00:00 - 08:30 UTC, while console players followed on April 17, 01:00 - 09:00 UTC.

Map Rotation and Service Updates
Random map regions in NA, SA, EU, RU, and Console follow a five-week rotation. Week 1 gives Erangel a 36% chance, favored maps 18% each, and other maps 9%. Week 2 drops Erangel to 33% with the remaining maps at 17% each. Week 3 varies by platform, week 4 gives every map 20%, and week 5 returns to the fixed and favored map pattern. For Ranked, the map service is updated on a season-by-season basis. The current Ranked rotation features Erangel 25%, Miramar 25%, Taego 20%, Rondo 20%, and Deston 10%.
New Aim Punch Mechanics Go Live
The new aim punch system, previously tested in Gunplay Labs, is now live across all firearms. Different weapon categories receive different levels of aim punch, and the range at which a fight happens matters more than ever.
-
Shotguns apply the highest level of aim punch.
-
SMGs get a high level, though slightly lower than shotguns.
-
The VSS behaves like an SMG in this system.
-
ARs and DMRs have a low level, with 7.62mm ammo hitting harder than 5.56mm.
-
Handguns, crossbows, and other weapons have a very low level.
Distance also changes things. SMG and shotgun aim punch drops significantly by 50 meters, where SMGs feel close to ARs. Sniper rifles keep a strong punch at mid-range, while ARs and DMRs see their extra punch fade beyond 100 meters. The developers have said they will keep listening to community feedback after the live rollout.

Item Spawns Become More Consistent
One of the biggest philosophical changes in Update 35.1 is the push to unify Normal Match, Ranked, and Esports. Several items that used to be map-specific are now handled differently.
The Zipline Gun, Stun Gun, and Emergency Cover Flare now world spawn on every map. The Self-AED can also world spawn everywhere, but only in Solo mode. It has been removed from Duo and Squad modes, special spawn locations, and Rondo's In-Game Challenge rewards. Meanwhile, the Blue Chip Transmitter, Decoy Grenade, Spike Trap, Thermal 4x Scope, and Battle Ready Kit have been removed from all spawn spots.
Zipline Gun and cable spawn rates have been slightly increased. Inflatable Boats now have fixed spawn spots on Erangel, though the total spawn count stays the same. The developers explained that these changes should reduce the burden of memorizing map-specific items and make strategies more versatile across maps.
Audio, Recall, and Map Events
Audio changes in this patch target long play session fatigue. The sounds of a player's own gunfire, vehicles, and planes have been slightly reduced. Mortar explosions have also been updated to better communicate distance based on the impact point.
The Recall system is now available on every map, including Karakin and Paramo. On those maps, Recall flights appear every 2 minutes and 30 seconds, but they stop from Phase 5 onward. This also applies to Custom Match.

Seasonal and event map changes also arrive. Bunny Baskets have been placed in Erangel, Miramar, Taego, Deston, Vikendi, and Rondo. Using one grants healing items, which can be a nice early-game boost. Churches on Erangel have received a special makeover, and the Erangel Hall of Fame has been redesigned to celebrate PGC 2024 winners The Expendables. The latest champion photos, trophy, and uniform appear below the Honor Board, while past winners are shown only on the board.
Deston's dynamic weather returns, including storms, sunrises, and clearing storms. Hot Drop mode has been removed, but it may come back as a limited-time event later.
Ranked Season 35 and Contender Progression
Ranked players have new rewards to chase. The Lynx AMR weapon skins have been added as permanent Tier Rewards for Season 35. The Stun Gun and Emergency Cover Flare have also been added. The leaderboard resets after live server maintenance, and players can check their final tier from the previous season on the Career page.
Rewards are based on the final tier from the previous Ranked season. Weapon skins and medals are permanent, while other rewards last only for a single Ranked season. Top 500 rewards go to players at Master Tier and above.
The Contender system is another major addition. Each Contender includes an appearance and outfit as a set, with extra features unlocked through upgrades. Players can get Contender materials at a certain probability from Contender Prime Parcels, which come from Archivist's Chests. To collect and upgrade Contenders, players need Record Files and Credits. Record Files can be crafted in the Workshop using Artisan Tokens, and each one is tied to a specific Contender.

A new Contender page has been added to the Workshop for viewing, collecting, upgrading, and previewing. A Contender tab also appears in the Customize - Character page. Additional related items have been added to Artisan Crafting.
Custom Match Improvements
Custom Match receives a long list of quality-of-life changes. On PC, text chat is now available in Custom Match lobbies. Lobbies remain even after a match ends, and the map can be changed in Match Settings after the lobby is created. Changing the map resets settings to that map's defaults.
A new Match Start Standby Time setting lets hosts adjust the waiting time before a match begins. A Blue Zone Activation option has been added under Match Settings - Rules - Blue Zone, but only for Partner or Clan Master privileges. If the match doesn't end when the Blue Zone is deactivated, it will automatically end after a certain period.
AI-related settings have also been added. Hosts can enable AI and adjust AI damage in Custom Match - Normal Mode. AI damage settings do not apply to Throwables. When AI is added, bots fill the lobby up to the max player count but are not placed on the same team as players. Matches can start with only one team when AI is added, and matches continue even if only bots remain.
The maximum player count has been increased to 100 in all modes except Team Deathmatch and 1v1 Arena. After a match ends, the Match Results screen is shown to all players. The Spike Trap, Decoy Grenade, and Blue Chip Transmitter have been removed from the Spawn tab, and match setting presets saved before 2020 can no longer be loaded.
Performance and Bug Fixes
Performance work continues on Sanhok. The map has been optimized to improve average frame rates and reduce stuttering, especially near building destruction or destroyed buildings. Several smaller fixes address issues with spectating inventory, emergency pickup plane sounds, bear observer disconnects on Vikendi, Karakin collisions and textures, and various outfit clipping or texture bugs.
Overall, Update 35.1 pushes PUBG toward a more unified and accessible experience. Whether players are grinding ranked, hosting custom lobbies, or just hunting for Bunny Baskets, this patch gives them plenty of reasons to drop back in.
